Balancing your social life and Uni: When procrastination takes over🙈
Hey everyone!
Hope your Sunday has been better than mine has... I am currently battling through a severe hangover, (self-inflicted🙈) but well worth it! We celebrated one of my friends turning 21, and thank god she only turns 21 once😂... but that brings me on to the topic I am going to talk about today, PROCRASTINATION. Yes. We all know how much of a killer procrastination can be when it comes to work. Some people can probably handle it better than others, however, I can safely say I am not a part of that group of people. I am someone who struggles a lot with procrastinating and putting work off. Even with things like the gym, putting it off and putting it off until I've left it too late and just don't go🙂.
Its so important to have a good social life and to get out and about with friends and family but its just as important to manage your work, not just for your teachers, lecturers or boss, but for your own peace of mind as well. It can be so overwhelming when work is left until last minute, trust me I've been there, scrolling on TikTok for hours with an assignment due the next day (guilty☑️) but believe it or not, there is ways to have a fulfilling social life while not letting the stress of school or work take over your life. Im not a master of it yet but I do find certain little things do help in managing all these things easily.
First of all, DO NOT fall for the people who appear to have their lives all together with these daily to do-lists and strict schedules, calculated down to the last hour of designated time for study and socialising. Yes, this may work for some people, but let's be real, not everyone likes the idea of planning their day or week, that's an effort in itself🥲. You don't need to be waking up at 5am every morning with a morning routine and a stretch to have a good, productive day. If you can do this and are happy doing this, fair play! Definitely keep it up, but if its not for you, that is completely fine as well! It's definitely not for me anyway...
Routine. Getting into a good routine that suits you is key to getting stuff done. Set yourself realistic goals to get stuff done throughout the day. You know the feeling after completing an assignment that has been looming over you for so long and it felt like you were never going to get it finished? Such a good feeling. Just think of that if you're still struggling 💪🏼.
I didn't move away anywhere for uni so its not that much of a challenge when it comes to getting work done during the week since I'm not going out. I save going out for drinks for the weekend and, to be honest, I find this is the best way to not only get work done, but to have a good social life in the process. I can go out without the guilt of not doing any work. Some of you reading this probably can't relate to this, going out living the ultimate uni life and that's unreal! Just remember to set time aside for work as leaving it all last minute can be a nightmare!
Moral of the story, setting time aside for work and school doesn't have to be as dooming as some people make it out to be. Simply breaking tasks down into manageable chunks that suit you can make a huge difference! We all need a social life. I am still learning how to stop putting work off and getting it done, but I have found by doing little bits every day makes the difference...
If anyone has any tips they use to avoid procrastination and balancing your social life feel free to share below! Maybe some of you have even better advice for me and other readers💫.
